Principles of Soil Health

- Fundamentals -
  • Keeping soil in place by reducing disturbance where possible

  • Maintaining or improving soil quality parameters such as; organic matter, bulk density, soil structure, and microbiota

  • Managing and protecting water supplies

  • Cropping systems that contribute to improving soil health incrementally year after year

  • Applying inputs only as needed and when looking for new solutions

  • Healthy soils sequester carbon, impact the quality of our air and water, mitigate the effects of flooding and drought, as well as contribute to a more resilient food system.

Soil Health Indicators
  • Using indicators to gather data on your soil can help to contribute to better yield forecasting and identify areas of concern or success.
